Wim Wenders, b. Aug. 14, 1945, is one of a trio of German film directors whose work came to international notice in the 1970s, the others being Rainer FASSBINDER and Werner HERZOG. Wenders's most successful films have been strongly influenced by American literary and cinematic styles. They include Kings of the Road (1976), The American Friend (1977), and two U.S.-made films, Hammett (1982) and Paris, Texas (1984). The highly praised Wings of Desire (1987) was made in collaboration with German writer Peter HANDKE. The comic road movie Until the End of the World was released in 1991.
